Caleb was so set on not playing Independent baseball. If it wasn’t a team affiliated with MLB, he didn’t want it. He had several teams call him until he finally decided to go play. Why? You ask. We didn’t know the truth about Independent baseball.
I think people misinterpret what Independent baseball really is. Thoughts like, “Guys who just can’t hang up their cleats”, “wanna be’s”, and “washed up athletes” just to name a few.
Being on this side of the fence, I see so much more now. These guys are fighting with every ounce left in them and not taking one day for granted. Yet, they are having so much fun. They are dream chasers just taking a detour.
Didn’t you know some great major league players played in Independent baseball? Big dreams don’t always come easy.
If anything, my husband has fallen in love with baseball again and for that I am thankful. He is excited to go to the clubhouse when he once dreaded it. His teammates quickly turned into lifelong friends and there is nothing shallow about it.
Jesus is teaching us quite a lot in this season of life. There’s no doubt we are right where we are supposed to be.
Independent baseball was the best thing for our family and we are enjoying every minute of it.
